What inspired the creation of AJ Solutions?
Response: Back in 2020, when Covid had started, I was talking to a few of my friends about how online remote working was becoming increasingly popular. Especially with Covid, many weren’t going to the office, so I thought to myself, ‘Maybe this is a good opportunity to capture a market where I can provide my services to small businesses and start-up companies,’ allowing them to afford professional accounting and bookkeeping services
What were the key factors that led you to focus on remote services in the bookkeeping sector?
Response: The key factors were Covid and the trend of many working from home, transitioning businesses from office environments to home settings. Another major factor was to capture the market of small businesses and start-up companies, so they wouldn’t have the burden of hiring employees to handle accounts. Instead, they could outsource it to a company like ours for a much lower fee.
How does AJ Solutions address the common challenges faced by small and medium businesses in accounting and bookkeeping?
Response: The main selling points are its cost-effectiveness and affordability. The AJ Solutions team combines over 50 years of experience, enabling us to provide clients with professional services superior to what a junior accountant in the company could offer, along with ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements. We take on the headache of managing accounts, so clients can focus on their business.
How has your personal experience influenced the services and direction of AJ Solutions?
Response: Personally, I began my career in this business, providing services of accounting and bookkeeping to a diverse clientele and I progressed in this particular industry with a company from Hong Kong. This gave me broad exposure to various types of accounting services needed for different businesses. This exposure enhanced my understanding of different operations and how to manage them from an accounting perspective.
It then led me to the private sector industry for various companies in the far east, Indian subcontinent and now Middle East where I was able to further develop my skills and add to my repertoire in managing companies’ accounting and financial controls.
What are the most significant lessons you’ve learned since starting AJ Solutions?
Response: AJ Solutions is still in its early days, an infant. I think to be able to capture a market without having a long-standing presence in the industry isn’t easy, but we strive to develop our client base based on our personal experience, reputation, and integrity. The most important thing to AJ Solutions is integrity and goodwill towards clients, so they know we are there for them, and hopefully, they will be there for us in the long term. We are still on the learning curve and hope to learn much more as we progress as a team while reaching for the stars.
What unique challenges have you faced in establishing a remote bookkeeping service, and how have you overcome them?
Response: The fact of the matter is that there are many people doing this type of thing, some of whom may not be remote but are established locally. So the challenge is competing with them and their prices. Many companies undercut the market and offer very low prices, but the extent of their professionalism and service level is uncertain.

What role do you see AJ Solutions playing in the future of remote bookkeeping services?
Response: We hope to be one of the pioneers of this service, advancing our technology and providing a seamless experience for the client. We have always understood that bookkeeping and number crunching may not be the most exciting discipline, but our job is to ensure that the client finds remote bookkeeping as reliable, if not more so, than in-house accountants.

What advice would you give to entrepreneurs looking to start a service-based business in today’s digital age?
Response: My main advice to entrepreneurs is to find your niche market and clients because this field is not for everybody. Not everyone wants to outsource digital services, and the personal, face-to-face relationship is also important. It’s crucial to find the right client who is cost-conscious and desires good service.
I would also say that you need to convince yourself and the client that the digital service you offer is just as good as the services you would receive from face-to-face personal interaction. Then proceed to demonstrate it practically. Talk the talk, but also walk the walk.
Shifting the focus from numbers to narratives, could you share with us your personal values, beliefs, and what you enjoy doing in your downtime so we can get to know more about the person steering AJ Solutions through the financial tides?
Response: In my life away from spreadsheets and financial statements, I’m a family man at heart, holding values like integrity and community engagement dear. Sports, especially tennis, are a significant part of my life, even earning me an MVP award recently. I balance this passion with my love for football, cheering on Liverpool every chance I get. (#YNWA!) My life is a blend of family, community, sports, and now, spreading my horizons in the realm of writing, as I embark on my journey as an aspiring author.
